vertical cemetery

In: Projects, Sacred

Inspired by the journey through a bamboo forest + the traditional Japanese funeral lanterns, the ‘translucent’ interface between the public + sacred spaces of the bamboo towers invites the community to interact – to cultivate cultural acceptance that the ohaka is inevitably part of the contemporary urban fabric.  There exists an interplay between the energy of the living + the tranquillity of the departed.

A biophilic sanctuary, vertical green parks and nature sits in contrast to the concrete environment of Shinjuku.  Large reflection spaces are situated on top of the towers with views to the sky + thus the ‘heavens’.
