double single
A set of two single storey family homes on another awkwardly shaped site in a suburban setting opposite a primary school within a typical Perth family friendly neighbourhood. The challenge was to design two identical dwellings to suit completely different orientations on a 5 sided lot with no parallel or perpendicular boundaries.
The plan of each dwelling is separated into two wings – private wing containing bedrooms and bathrooms and a wing with shared spaces consisting of open plan living including a multi-functional work-from-home space. Between these two wings is a threshold, a transition space, a bridge.
The developer’s goal was to showcase yet another model of how a fully functioning and well-designed family home can fit within a small footprint, leaning into the current small lot trend as well as accommodate for future plandemic lockdowns.
