The clients approached us with the vision of building a small environmental sustainable house. They were keen to explore alternative construction materials and methods including structural insulation panels as well as water recycling and PV systems.
The house consists of several pavilions and each of the pavilions was planned around a large central north facing courtyard/outdoor living space. The volumes were designed to receive the desired south-westerly breezes as well as promote cross-ventilation throughout to reduce mechanical cooling during summers. High level clerestory windows receives northern day-lighting providing natural lighting throughout the day as well as ventilate hot air trapped on the high ceilings.
