The client approached us without a site in mind but knew the suburbs she wanted her proposed home to be located. Before we were commissioned, she was in the process of searching for the right block of land and we gave her input as to the pros and cons of each potential lot she presented to us.
The brief was for a large two storey home with a small granny flat in the rear. The only specific item relating to the planning other than the usual requirements of a home were her desire to have a courtyard or internal garden in the centre of the house. Over time, the granny flat turned into a lavish two bedroom and two bathroom dwelling with a complete family kitchen, dining and lounge room. But the main house remained true to our design with only minor amendments throughout the construction stage. The material and colour scheme followed our principle of ‘wabi sabi’.
