Babushka House

Babushka House architecturally designed by Perth Architects

In: Projects, Residential

The concept of the design is a playful series of 3 volumes – shared volume, open volume and private volume. The insertion of a courtyard void separating the 2 solid volumes maximized Northern natural day-lighting to all 3 volumes. Multi-functionality of bedrooms, open plan living area and dual function indoor/outdoor living area in the form of the courtyard creates flexible/adaptable spaces. The kitchen and dining area adjoining the courtyard create a fluid indoor/outdoor design. The courtyard becomes part of the living volume when the bi-fold doors are opened up. The kitchen cook-top doubles as a barbecue when operated from the courtyard. Green roofs were a prominent feature in the design.
